According to Arnold Schwarzenegger, paradise is a “dream.”
Arnold Schwarzenegger, the former Governor of California, is expected to open up about his struggles in a new three-part documentary series called “Arnold,” now streaming on Netflix.
In an extended interview with Danny DeVito, Schwarzenegger, 75, discussed his views on paradise and death in his unique way. When asked by DeVito, 78, “What the future holds for us,” Schwarzenegger recalled a question posed by Howard Stern about what happens after we die. He admitted that he didn’t provide a detailed answer to Stern, saying, “Six feet below you, it is. Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying.”
Schwarzenegger acknowledged, “We don’t know what happens with the soul and all this spiritual stuff, but I know that the body, as we see each other now, we will never see each other like that again,” adding that he isn’t an expert in spiritual matters.
Although he finds discussing death unsettling, the former bodybuilder also expressed his belief that paradise is a “dream.” He remarked, “It sounds wonderful when people say, ‘I’ll see them again in paradise,’ but the reality is that after we die, we won’t run into each other again. That’s the sad part. I understand some people find comfort in death, but I don’t.”
Schwarzenegger mentioned losing “15 friends in the last 20 or so years” from the bodybuilding community, which has altered his concept of paradise. He explained, “Paradise is where I’ll put someone I love, who’s kind, generous, and who made a difference in both my life and others’ lives. I keep them in a place in my mind, like that front row of all your friends, and you always feel happy when you think of them.”
The new “Arnold” documentary series, which premiered on Netflix on Wednesday, chronicles Schwarzenegger’s journey from Austria to the pinnacle of the American Dream. The series features interviews with Schwarzenegger, as well as his friends, rivals, co-stars, and observers, offering an honest look at his life and challenges, according to the production company.
